Show Girl in Hollywood (1930) Alice White, Jack Mulhall, Blanche Sweet

Blanche Sweet, one of biggest stars of the silent era & originally cast to play the female lead in the brilliant 1915 `Birth of a Nation` before Lillian Gish was given the role, was commanding $10000 a week in 1926. Here in `Show Girl in Hollywood` she plays a has-been which is exactly what she was then at age 34. This film could be regarded as a sequel. Alice White played Dixie Dugan in the 1928 silent `Show Girl`- thought to be a lost film until 3 years ago when a print was discovered in Milan. Supposedly due for a Warner DVD release.

I saw this film and was moved by the pride the industry displayed concerning it's new sound technology and what was involved. Alice White appeared to be an intelligent meaningful woman.

watching that film broke my heart because I felt that those people knew that we of the future would see it and they wanted us to know. From a technological point of view they had to suspect that they were at the beginning of something awesome. I believe in these things.
